Speed up Windows 7
Windows 7 is a great operating system and it has actually been programmed for excellent performance. With this in mind, it is easy to perform a few tweaks and see some massive gains. In less than 3 minutes, you should be able to see a sizable difference in your Windows 7 speed, performance and responsiveness.
In this article, we will provide three quick tweaks you can apply to see an instant boost to speed up windows 7. At the end of the article we look at some software that can blow the performance off the charts.
Tweaks you should implement for improving Windows 7 performance. Note: success of these tweaks can vary from system to system, so just use trial and error.
1) Disable the aero theme for better speed in Windows 7
This is a great place to start for instant performance and speed up of windows 7. The Aero theme looks awesome, no doubt about it. However, are you on your PC to work, or stare at the interface all day. I am sure you would prefer to have quick switching between software and maximum speed, rather than some shiny graphics. Regardless, try turning this off to see how your performance improves.
To turn off the aero theme in Windows 7:
Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize. In the following window you can see aero themes and basic themes. Simply choose something like the Windows 7 basic. The theme will be applied and performance should improve.
2) Turn off indexing
Windows 7 provides indexing to speed up search results. The problem is this indexing uses up a lot of resources. If you don’t search very often, then it is worth turning this off. Don’t worry, you can always turn it back on.
To switch off the search indexing in Windows 7.
Click Control -> Panel
Select Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
Browse the services, under Services and Applications on the left and look for a service called Windows Search. Double click on this, then set it to disabled. To switch it back on, just follow the same steps and set to enabled.
3) Turn off UAC
This will help get rid of the constant interruptions caused by the user access control feature and it will limit your annoyance. Don’t switch it off, if you feel you need it. But so far, I have turned it off on all PCs I use and never had a problem.
To remove the annoying UAC prompts in Windows 7 and help speed it up:
Click Control Panel -> User Accounts
Click Change User Account Control Settings
Simply drag the slider towards the Never notify option.
Hopefully the tips above will give you some increased performance. For the ultimate performance, there is a new program out that cleans the Registry for Windows 7 as well as performing full optimization of disk, startup, processes, malware and more. Learn more at the PC Health Advisor review page.
Hope this little guide will help you speed up Windows 7.
